Outreach News 10/4/10

1. NENA Technical Standard Document on Detailed Functional and Interface Specification for the NENA i3 Solution - Stage 3 NENA 08-003, Version 1, September 30, 2010, has been posted to the NENA website and is available for the 45 Calendar Day Public Review and Comment starting Monday October 4, 2010, and ends Wednesday November 17, 2010 at 5PM ET. This draft specification (see attached) that builds upon prior NENA publications including i3 requirements and architecture documents. Familiarity with the concepts, terminology and functional elements described in these documents is a prerequisite. The i3 solution supports end-to-end IP connectivity; gateways are used to accommodate legacy wireline and wireless origination networks that are non-IP. NENA i3 introduces the concept of an Emergency Services IP network (ESInet), which is designed as an IP-based inter-network (network of networks) that can be shared by all public safety agencies that may be involved in any emergency. The i3 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) is capable of receiving IP-based signaling and media for delivery of emergency calls conformant to the i3 standard.

2. Many first responder organizations are using Verizon Wireless for mobile broadband access. The information provided below from the Commission may be helpful for such organizations.
